What if you stopped running from what you feel?

Dear Beautiful Soul,

What do you do when an uncomfortable emotion appears?

When you feel sadness, anger, fear, disappointment, loneliness, jealousy, or frustration?

Many of us were never taught how to sit with our emotions.

Instead, we learned how to avoid them.

We stay busy.
We scroll through our phones.
We eat.
We work.
We distract ourselves.
We tell ourselves to “get over it.”

Or we push the emotion down and pretend everything is fine.

But emotions do not simply disappear because we refuse to acknowledge them.

Often, they remain beneath the surface, quietly influencing the way we think, react, communicate, and make decisions.

That is why learning to sit with your emotions can be such a powerful practice.

Sitting with an emotion does not mean allowing it to control you.

It means becoming curious about it instead of immediately trying to escape it.

It is saying:

“Something is happening within me right now, and I am willing to listen.”

Your emotions can carry information.

Anger may reveal that a boundary has been crossed.

Sadness may reveal something that needs to be grieved.

Fear may reveal where you feel unsafe or uncertain.

Frustration may reveal that something in your life is no longer aligned with what you truly want.

And sometimes, an emotional reaction can lead us even deeper.

It can reveal an Invisible Belief™ operating beneath the surface.

Perhaps someone doesn’t return your message, and you immediately think:

“I don’t matter.”

Perhaps you make a mistake, and your mind says:

“I’m not good enough.”

Perhaps someone disagrees with you and something inside whispers:

“I’m being rejected.”

The emotion is real—but underneath that emotion may be a belief that has been with you for years.

This is why, instead of immediately asking, “How do I make this feeling go away?” we can begin asking:

“What is this feeling trying to show me?”

That question can hold tremendous wisdom.

Your challenge for this week

For the next 7 days, whenever you notice a strong emotion, give yourself five quiet minutes before automatically reacting to it.

Pause.

Take a few slow breaths.

Then ask yourself:

1. What am I feeling right now?

Name the emotion without judging it.

2. What happened just before I felt this way?

Notice the trigger.

3. What am I telling myself this situation means?

This is where an Invisible Belief™ may begin to reveal itself.

4. Is what I’m telling myself absolutely true—or could there be another interpretation?

And finally:

5. What do I need right now?

Maybe you need rest.

Maybe you need a boundary.

Maybe you need an honest conversation.

Maybe you need to journal, pray, cry, forgive, or simply allow yourself to feel what you feel.

You don’t have to solve every emotion.

Sometimes you simply need to give it permission to exist long enough to understand what it is trying to communicate.

This week, instead of running from your emotions, try listening to them with compassion and curiosity.

You may discover that what once felt uncomfortable is actually pointing you toward something within yourself that is ready to be understood, healed, or changed.

Your emotions are part of your story—but they do not have to write your future.

With love & light,

Rev. Carmen Gélinas
