Why writing your thoughts can change more than you realize

Dear Beautiful Soul,

Have you ever had so many thoughts running through your mind that you couldn’t even identify what you were truly feeling?

We think all day long.

We think about what happened yesterday.
What someone said to us.
What we need to accomplish.
What might happen tomorrow.
What we wish we had done differently.

And when all those thoughts remain inside our minds, they can begin to feel overwhelming.

That is one of the reasons I believe journaling can be such a powerful practice.

Writing gives your thoughts somewhere to go.

The moment you put pen to paper, you begin taking what is happening internally and placing it somewhere you can actually see it.

And sometimes, seeing our thoughts written in front of us reveals things we didn’t realize were there.

A fear we have been carrying.

A belief that has been influencing our decisions.

A pattern that keeps repeating.

An emotion we have been avoiding.

Or perhaps even a dream we have been afraid to admit we truly want.

Journaling creates a quiet conversation with yourself.

There is no one to impress.

No one to please.

No one telling you what you should feel.

It is simply you, your thoughts, and the truth of what is happening within you.

And that honesty can be incredibly freeing.

I also believe journaling creates space for Divine Wisdom.

When we slow down, become still, and allow ourselves to write without judgment, answers sometimes begin to emerge that we couldn’t hear through the noise of everyday life.

You may begin writing about a problem and suddenly see a different possibility.

You may recognize why a situation keeps triggering you.

You may discover that something you have believed about yourself for years isn’t actually true.

That is where journaling becomes more than simply recording what happened during your day.

It becomes a tool for awareness.

And awareness is often the beginning of transformation.

I have a challenge for you this week.

For the next 7 days, give yourself just 10 quiet minutes each day.

Take out a journal, turn off the distractions, and begin with these three questions:

1. What am I feeling today?

2. What thoughts have been occupying my mind?

3. What is my heart trying to tell me that I haven’t been listening to?

Then simply write.

Don’t edit yourself.

Don’t worry about grammar.

Don’t judge what comes onto the page.

And most importantly, don’t write what you think you should feel.

Write what is true.

At the end of the seven days, go back and read what you wrote.

Look for repeated words, emotions, fears, desires, and beliefs.

You may discover something very important about yourself.

You may even recognize an Invisible Belief™ that has quietly been influencing the way you think, feel, or make decisions.

And when you recognize it, ask yourself one final question:

“Is this belief helping me create the life I want—or is it keeping me from it?”

That is where change can begin.

Your journal can become a sacred place where you meet yourself honestly, listen more deeply, and create space for the wisdom that is already within you.

So this week, give yourself those 10 minutes.

You may be surprised by what your own words teach you.

With love & light,

Rev. Carmen Gélinas
